Productive Day

Tuesdays off from work are full of accomplishments. Here is a list of all the things I did today, while rocking out in this amazingly comfy and warm Fair Isle sweater…and in these boots that give me crazy amounts of height that cause sales associates to comment on how tall I am.

  • I cleaned out my closet of things I don’t wear anymore.
  • I took them to a resale place here and made $100 on some of the items. They gave me back the items they didn’t want.
  • I took those reject items to the second location of this same resale place and made $46 on some of the rejects. Success.
  • I took my wedding dress in to get alterations so that my rib cage would fit nicely into it. Long story short, I bought a wedding dress for $54 in The Fiance’s hometown. It is probably 1/2 size too small. I am going to make this work.
  • The alterations lady was so nice, but told me that my dress was too short or I was either too tall. I don’t know how to take this comment.
  • I bought the domain name for my blog. More details to come once I figure out website speak. Exciting!
  • I emptied the trash and did laundry. Riveting!

Luckily, I get another day off tomorrow, so I might just have a lazy day to myself.

How to Layer During the Snow

DSC02544 DSC02538 DSC02542 DSC02545 Indiana got covered with a blanket of snow last night, and it is still snowing strong this morning. It is the perfect day to stay in and cozy up to a loved one and a cup of coffee. I already have had plenty of Cooper snuggles this morning. I’m off to venture out into the cold and snow to model bridesmaid dresses for my friend B and her upcoming wedding. She’s having a hard time deciding what look she wants, so fingers crossed that I can help her narrow it down. Choosing bridesmaid dresses for my wedding was hard too, so I know what she is going through! This outfit is practical and not fancy at all, so hopefully, there is no one to impress at the bridal boutique! I love mixing stripes with almost every other print imaginable, and this scarf/shirt combo is one of my favs. How to Layer During the Snow:

  1. Pick a thicker knit top that still is fitted. Put it on.
  2. Take an oversized sweater (one in a bigger size than you normally wear, so it will fit over your first top). Put it on.
  3. Accessorize with a thick scarf.
  4. Throw on your warmest jacket (not pictured).

ps. After these photos occurred, The Fiance pelted me with snowballs. I got a few in too (I promise we are not five year olds), but stayed plenty warm in this look.

Double Dot Day

Today is ridiculously windy here in Indy (rhyming poet right here), so much that they are calling it Windinanapolis now. Clever, right?! Please check out my hair for further proof.

So a windy day called for all the dots in the world. This scarf was a gift to me from my friend C. She knows how much I love scarves and polka dots and brought it to me randomly one day when she was up to visit. What an awesome surprise (and friend gesture), right?! This is its first appearance on the blog (which she read regularly, hello C!), so please enjoy it in its splendor!

She also is a super big fan of Cooper and has requested more photos of him on the blog. This is hilariously fitting for today’s post, since he managed to sneak into ALL the blog pictures that I took myself during lunch. He would not cooperate, so I had to wait until after work for The Fiance to take the photos. So here you go, C…I enjoy your scarf. Please enjoy the puppy!

Real Life Ralph Lauren?

Lookin’ snazzy, right? Someone (I kid you not) at my work today, asked me if I was trying out to be a Ralph Lauren model. The answer was “no, but thank you thank you thank you for saying that.” Again, people, real life compliments are where it is at!

I had a fairly important conference call at work today, and even though it sounds crazy, I have read that you act more on point and more professional (even just on the phone) if you are more dressed up. That’s why they tell you to be in your business professional suit when on the phone with a job interview. At least, that’s what they told me in business school! I think it work, since I nailed the call.

This outfit also streamlined my layering issues from yesterday. The blazer helps define a shape, and I still got to keep warm by rocking this thinner sweater under my blazer. Warm and professional? Count me in!

Copycat!: A Pony for Christmas

Outfit Inspiration from: Mindy Kaling on The Mindy Project

DSC02447

DSC02448*Copycat! is a feature where I try to recreate outfits I find on Pinterest (or various other sources of inspiration), utilizing at least one item from Target.

Third time for a Copycat! This inspiration comes from Mindy Kaling on The Mindy Project, which is actually one of the few shows that I regularly watch (though on Hulu). This sweater is so cute, but so little kid-ish (mainly because I plucked it from the girls department of Old Navy), so I was having a hard time figuring out how to wear it to work. Who else, but the hilarious Mindy, could pair together a horse graphic shirt and still look business appropriate, which is exactly what I wanted to do with this sweater this morning! I took the cutesy-ness of this sweater up a notch with the polka dot tights (which might have seen their last day, since I think they have a run in them…sad face), and have already gotten tons of compliments from people at work. Boom…real life compliments are day makers!

How would you rock this sweater in real life? Old Navy’s Instagram also featured this sweater on their feed today. I’m such a trendsetter, hah!

ps. I’m already sick of winter. And snow. And wearing tights. Get ready for a long winter season of me complaining about the cold and trying to make blankets fashionable. Just what you wanted to hear right?

Snow Scarf

Luckily, I am not actually wearing a scarf of snow, can you imagine how miserable that would be? Indianapolis got a bit of a snowfall last night (weather report says about 3 inches of snow), and The Fiancé and I luckily both were already taking a day off work to spend a “day date” together. I thought I would incorporate this bright scarf to a.) keep in line with my Five for Friday scarf theme this week, b.) to provide a bit of bright colors to the dreary scenery, and c.) to help me stay warm as we’ll be walking around downtown.

We’ve had our bagels from Einstein Bagels for breakfast and dropped my car off to get its oil change (being an adult is so glamorous), and now, we are headed downtown to take in the holiday decorations, visit the Eiteljorg Museum, and try the legendary (and very fiery) shrimp cocktail from St. Elmo’s Steakhouse. Hopefully, I’ll be able to snag some photos and can post the details of the trip on this blog!

Stay warm out there, folks!

I’m Bringing Fair Isle Back

DSC02373

I don’t know about you guys, but I am not a big fan of not being on Thanksgiving break anymore. Big fan of this outfit, though. I’m continuing to skirt the dress code at work, because these “pants” are actual black jeans (though they don’t really feel like denim material), and we’re back to business casual after a week of being on jeans week. However, I think they look like dress pants if you aren’t paying attention. So I’m going to run with it until I get caught! Don’t tell anyone (wink)! The pumps help “business” it up too.

This sweater is so comfy, and I pretty pumped that I bought the similar one in light blue. Like it so much, I bought it twice. I’m one of those girls. Fair isle sweaters are a big trend this year, and I am so glad. I love over the top sweaters (sign me up for your Ugly Christmas Sweater party), and these are a good, normal way to wear some crazy-ish prints. Expect to see this one and its blue cousin a few times this season!

I topped it off with my new necklace seen in this morning’s weekend Target Haul post. Almost all Target today! What a great commitment to this blog’s mission.

ps. Please ignore my squinty eyes. It was a weird combination of overcast and bright outside when The Fiance took these pictures. You’re here for the outfit anyways, right? Not my glamorous eyes!

pps. Target is having a Cyber Monday sale right now, where it is “Buy One, Get one 60% Off.” I would take advantage of this, but I am banning myself from shopping for clothing items until Christmas (12/25). Ahh!
