How to Layer During the Snow

DSC02544 DSC02538 DSC02542 DSC02545 Indiana got covered with a blanket of snow last night, and it is still snowing strong this morning. It is the perfect day to stay in and cozy up to a loved one and a cup of coffee. I already have had plenty of Cooper snuggles this morning. I’m off to venture out into the cold and snow to model bridesmaid dresses for my friend B and her upcoming wedding. She’s having a hard time deciding what look she wants, so fingers crossed that I can help her narrow it down. Choosing bridesmaid dresses for my wedding was hard too, so I know what she is going through! This outfit is practical and not fancy at all, so hopefully, there is no one to impress at the bridal boutique! I love mixing stripes with almost every other print imaginable, and this scarf/shirt combo is one of my favs. How to Layer During the Snow:

  1. Pick a thicker knit top that still is fitted. Put it on.
  2. Take an oversized sweater (one in a bigger size than you normally wear, so it will fit over your first top). Put it on.
  3. Accessorize with a thick scarf.
  4. Throw on your warmest jacket (not pictured).

ps. After these photos occurred, The Fiance pelted me with snowballs. I got a few in too (I promise we are not five year olds), but stayed plenty warm in this look.

It’s Cold In Here

It is so cold outside, guys. All I could think about this morning was warmth, layers, and more warmth. So that’s how I ended up with 16 layers on today. Socks, boots, jeans (which again passed for black dress pants, hooray!), plaid button down, and a sweatershirt (that looks fancier than it is). I liked the idea of these pieces together, but I am not sure it all jelled right (mainly because I think it looked a little bit frumpy. However, I might not be rocking the slimmest outfit that I own, but at least I stayed warm!

I think that is one of the reasons I like having this blog: to document what works and what does NOT work. It is nice to see things that work well, and I’ll just have to keep trying for those good combinations! Like popcorn and blackberries…which is 100% what I had for lunch. Real life choices, right here!

Ps. Yes, this shirt is super popular all over instagram and that may what inspired my purchase of it, but it is hard to style with your hair down and no necklaces. Short haired ladies, you can rock this shirt!

I’m Bringing Fair Isle Back

I don’t know about you guys, but I am not a big fan of not being on Thanksgiving break anymore. Big fan of this outfit, though. I’m continuing to skirt the dress code at work, because these “pants” are actual black jeans (though they don’t really feel like denim material), and we’re back to business casual after a week of being on jeans week. However, I think they look like dress pants if you aren’t paying attention. So I’m going to run with it until I get caught! Don’t tell anyone (wink)! The pumps help “business” it up too.

This sweater is so comfy, and I pretty pumped that I bought the similar one in light blue. Like it so much, I bought it twice. I’m one of those girls. Fair isle sweaters are a big trend this year, and I am so glad. I love over the top sweaters (sign me up for your Ugly Christmas Sweater party), and these are a good, normal way to wear some crazy-ish prints. Expect to see this one and its blue cousin a few times this season!

I topped it off with my new necklace seen in this morning’s weekend Target Haul post. Almost all Target today! What a great commitment to this blog’s mission.

ps. Please ignore my squinty eyes. It was a weird combination of overcast and bright outside when The Fiance took these pictures. You’re here for the outfit anyways, right? Not my glamorous eyes!

pps. Target is having a Cyber Monday sale right now, where it is “Buy One, Get one 60% Off.” I would take advantage of this, but I am banning myself from shopping for clothing items until Christmas (12/25). Ahh!

The Bucket Game

Fact: all the local Targets here in Indianapolis sell sports gear for the local professional and school teams. Hypothesis: I would guess that all local Targets sell something like that for their state and collegiate teams. But I’m not for sure? So let me know in the comments if your hometown Target sells sports gear for your teams.

I think this is a really great idea. I love that I can go into my favorite store and pick up some gear for my favorite sports teams. I have bought a few items of Indiana University (my alma mater) apparel from Target, and this t-shirt is one of my favorites.

I pulled it out to wear today, because myself, my dad, and one of my best friends, B, are all going to the annual IU vs. Purdue Bucket Game. My dad graduated from Purdue, and B and I graduated from IU. The rivalry between these two schools is legendary, and the yearly football game decides which team gets to add their letter to the bucket. I’m hoping for an IU win, but we have not been playing well for the past two games. The good news, though, is that Purdue hasn’t been playing well all year!

I’ll have to bundle up (the game is always played on the last weekend of November, it seems) and plan on wearing this t-shirt as one of my core layers, but this is what I would wear to the game had it been played in late September. T-shirt, cardigan, and jeans, plus a game with my dad and a stadium hot dog. What more could a girl ask for as a great tradition!?

Comfy Stripes

Growing out bangs is real hard. Like, so hard. Any tips?

Going back to work today was nice because we had a jeans day (which are somewhat random in our office, like on a Wednesday, but not this Friday?). So even though I was coming off a day off, I still had a pep in my step, since I got to wear my awesome Target jeans…again.

This blazer is recent from Gap, and it is honestly one of my greatest finds there. It is ponte material, but lined inside and really heavy/sturdy. The sleeves are long enough for my 5’9″ eagle arm length, because I bought it in a tall size 6, which someone had returned from online, because they never have talls in stores (huge thank you to that person)!

I kept the rest of the outfit pretty simple with some Target basics, since this blazer is kind of loud, and I really liked the look.
