*A feature that I am going to run on Fridays (along with a daily outfit post) is called “Five for Friday.” I’ll be featuring five items from Target’s website that I am lusting after and feel could work wonders, if I had them in my daily wardrobe.
It has been so COLD here all week, and I am declaring it time for warm and comfy snuggles all winter long. To achieve that, grab your warmest lounge clothes, pop some popcorn, pick a movie, and slip on some slippers. Boom. Winter problems solved. If you’re feeling fancy, add in a touch of hot chocolate.
To fill your slipper needs, check out these warm finds from Target!
1. Gilligan & O’Malley Cable Fur Boot
2. Chaia Sparkle Moccasin Slipper
3. Gilligan & O’Malley Lounge Slipper
4. Xhilaration Slipper Socks
5. Nick & Nora Lounge Slipper
Today is ridiculously windy here in Indy (rhyming poet right here), so much that they are calling it Windinanapolis now. Clever, right?! Please check out my hair for further proof.
So a windy day called for all the dots in the world. This scarf was a gift to me from my friend C. She knows how much I love scarves and polka dots and brought it to me randomly one day when she was up to visit. What an awesome surprise (and friend gesture), right?! This is its first appearance on the blog (which she read regularly, hello C!), so please enjoy it in its splendor!
She also is a super big fan of Cooper and has requested more photos of him on the blog. This is hilariously fitting for today’s post, since he managed to sneak into ALL the blog pictures that I took myself during lunch. He would not cooperate, so I had to wait until after work for The Fiance to take the photos. So here you go, C…I enjoy your scarf. Please enjoy the puppy!
- On Target item: Merona Sweater (exact, last seen in this post)
- Scarf: a gift from my friend C
- Pants: thrifted
- Shoes: Mossimo ankle boots (old, similar)
*Another feature that I am going to start on the blog is Target Hauls. Basically, I love to read when other people go and buy stuff, so I thought some of you might be interested to see the latest and greatest finds that I have gotten from Target.
Last. Target. Haul. for at least two weeks! Which is slightly saddening to me, but nonetheless, I must persevere with my No-Shopping-Until-Christmas Challenge. I will be rewarded with more money in my bank account and some sweet Target items from Christmas (at least I hope). These two beauts were my Cyber Monday purchases – those of you who are sticklers for rules might remember that I first posted about this challenge on Cyber Monday, well my friends, I bought these before I made my rule. Loopholes. Awesome accessory loopholes!
I was afraid that this scarf was going to sell out before Christmas, which is mainly why I purchased it. It is an awesome graphic print of city buildings. Now, I am not a city girl, but I love how beautiful cities look with their bright lights and big ideas, and that’s exactly what I think this city scarf looks like. Plus, it is blue, my favorite color.
This necklace reminds me of all the fancy J.Crew ones (which I would love to owe if someone wants to give me $100 or give to me, hint hint), but at a Target price. The necklace arrived missing some of its gems (rough mail delivery during this holiday season time, I think). I planned on taking it in for a refund, but I loved it too much. I pulled out my super glue and fixed it good as new (maybe even better). Those gems aren’t going anywhere, except around my neck!
ps. The Fiancé let me shake my wrapped Christmas presents last night, which was awesome, but I am apparently really bad at guessing what things are. Last year, he shook his presents and guessed what they all were! 100% people. Someone should hire him to do that for some real life purpose. However, this year, he was only about 30% accurate. Little does he know, that’s because I purposely made it hard this year. Sucker.
What did you ask for for Christmas this year? I love hearing what other people want!
Lookin’ snazzy, right? Someone (I kid you not) at my work today, asked me if I was trying out to be a Ralph Lauren model. The answer was “no, but thank you thank you thank you for saying that.” Again, people, real life compliments are where it is at!
I had a fairly important conference call at work today, and even though it sounds crazy, I have read that you act more on point and more professional (even just on the phone) if you are more dressed up. That’s why they tell you to be in your business professional suit when on the phone with a job interview. At least, that’s what they told me in business school! I think it work, since I nailed the call.
This outfit also streamlined my layering issues from yesterday. The blazer helps define a shape, and I still got to keep warm by rocking this thinner sweater under my blazer. Warm and professional? Count me in!
*So a feature that I am going to run on Wednesdays (possibly along with a daily outfit post) is called “What I Wish I Wore Wednesday.” I’ll be piecing together an outfit on Polyvore (which I have never used before blogging, but I really like it) with all Target items to show you what I wish I was wearing and just how easy it is too look cute on a budget.
Instead of the make-believe outfit I posted last week on WIWIW Wednesday (see here), I would actually 100% rock this outfit in real life (fur vests intimidate me, what can I say). I actually own this striped shirt and am in need of this awesome cobalt blue jacket. The pants and the snakeskin bag are so classic and neutral, which is needed with all the bright blue. The shoes keep the outfit functional and round out the blue theme and echo the buttons on the jacket.
Where would you wear this outfit (or what are your Wednesday plans)? Let me know in the comments!
It is so cold outside, guys. All I could think about this morning was warmth, layers, and more warmth. So that’s how I ended up with 16 layers on today. Socks, boots, jeans (which again passed for black dress pants, hooray!), plaid button down, and a sweatershirt (that looks fancier than it is). I liked the idea of these pieces together, but I am not sure it all jelled right (mainly because I think it looked a little bit frumpy. However, I might not be rocking the slimmest outfit that I own, but at least I stayed warm!
I think that is one of the reasons I like having this blog: to document what works and what does NOT work. It is nice to see things that work well, and I’ll just have to keep trying for those good combinations! Like popcorn and blackberries…which is 100% what I had for lunch. Real life choices, right here!
Ps. Yes, this shirt is super popular all over instagram and that may what inspired my purchase of it, but it is hard to style with your hair down and no necklaces. Short haired ladies, you can rock this shirt!
- On Target item: Merona Plaid Favorite Shirt (exact)
- Sweatshirt: Old Navy (exact)
- Black jeans: Denizen, Target (recent, tall and short styles online too!)
- Boots: Tahari, Macys (old)
As 2013 comes to a close, Pantone has announced the 2014 Color of the Year. It is Radiant Orchid, which the official press release has described as a “enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones.” This is biggish news in the news of style, as this color can be seen on the runways and the red carpet, which has a trickle down effect into retail stores. Past Colors of the Year have included Emerald (2013), Mimosa (2009), and Chili Pepper (2007). I won’t be rocking this year’s color, as I am not a huge fan of wearing pink or purple, but I can definitely appreciate how pretty of a color it is (especially in such a pretty scarf up there).
Check out some examples I pulled from Target’s website:
- Xhilaration Fit & Flare Dress
- Merona Ellie Genuine Leather Cap Toe Flat
- Mossimo Supply Co. Sweater
- Merona Crossbody Handbag
- Mossimo Supply Co. Marled Infinity Loop Scarf
Check out the official press release here on Pantone.com. Let me know in the comments if you plan on adding some Radiant Orchid to your life in 2014!
